Possessed Chaos Space Marines are regarded as one of the overpriced and unpredictable elites and on paper you might think this is true (I know I did.)Compared to a berszerker you have 1 less attack, no bolt pistol and no furious charge(unless you get it on the charts.)
So why not save some points and get some berzerkers. Well for a start Possesed gain str 5 all the time not just on the charge, they have 5+ invun and a random ability either:
- Power weapons(MEQ killer)
- Scouts(use with transports for 12 inch possible first turn charge)
- Fleet(self-explantory)
- Furious Charge(Str 6 on charge could take out tanks possibly)
- Rending(Not as good against MEQS but more possibilities against tank)
- Feel No Pain(assault plague marines in a nut shell).
Random is good!
People also don't like possesed because of the random factor, especially since you choose this after deployment. Don't forget this also affects your opponent he doesn't know if you could get scout and get in a position to assault something first turn, or get Feel no pain and render his heavy bolters half as a effective which were to kill of assault based sqauds.
Equipment
The only options for wargear for possesed are Icons and a champion.
Icons are:
Chaos glory Basically used like a personal icon as are already fearless.
Slaanesh Extra int lets you attack first which always good for assault units less effective with Furious charge.
Khorne Extra attacks increases killing power by 50% when not charging.
Nurgle T5 makes extra tough with 5+ inv makes for a tough unit especially with FnP.
Tzeentch 4+ inv makes better against plasma guns and other usual MEQ killing stuff.
Also with icons the more models in the sqaud the more valuable the icon so if you do have a squad of ten always take a icon and I would recommend it even in a sqaud of 5.
Champion
Now getting the extra attack for the champion isn't a really big deal, I would get it mainly if you have a greater summoned daemon since unlike other champions its only ten points more and isn't extra expensive with power fists or plasma etc.
